I came across this movie’s trailer while stealing a glance at a friend’s phone ………………… Honestly the term ‘SHANTY’ was a bit off cause I heard never heard a word about it prior to this movie……

What’s it about?

 Shanty town is a story that’s centered around the life of Young girls Forced into Prostitution by an Overly Glorified Pimp, who actually is the background Mercenary for a political Contestant, and his Illegitimate son.

 The Illegitimate son [Scar- I find this name quite befitting because he actually has an ugly scar on his face] runs his Father’s shady business for him, which include ‘pushing hard Drugs’, Human Parts sales, Assasination missions, Destroying Villages, Killing the inhabitants and enslaving their Young Girls, and later forcing them into prostitution While his Father receives the Glory for being a Philanrophist and restructuring Lagos.

Things Change when one of the Older girls, who had gone to Prison Comes back and tries to get back into the Prostitution business while claiming to be Owed a lot for being Abandoned by Scar…….

The movie was Good though ……..

The only problem was that the Nudity sold way more than the Movie itself……….

Ask many people and they'll tell you they heard of Shanty Town because of Nancy Isime's Nudes....

What many don't realize was that it was all strategic marketing...... And yes oooo its not her body......it's the work of a body double....... Watch that part closely now....you self will see..😂

Honestly The nudity was a bit too much.... but they passed the message quite alright...

People who complain about those scenes either don't know much about literary works or are to religious to see the main objective....even if it almost turned pointless....

Yes! There was a lot of female Objectualization…… that I think the movie producers forgot the main Element in this movie was the Freedom of Women from the Tight Claws of Prostitution, so they tried to show off more and more skin, that to top it, They shot a Car Sex Scene, just to prove that whatever the Americans were doing in their movies, they could replicate.

They did well in their Fight scenes too, I mean it was nice to see Ini Edo kick some ass rather than getting her’s slapped all the time.

The slight issue was that the fighting styles weren't properly defined.... I couldn't place the Martial art style 

Watching them Flip that Yellow Danfo too

Watching Scar Brutally murder one of his girls and later seeing the head and body parts severed and separately kept was also quite good [no, I do not fancy disgusting Blood and gore, but I have to give it to them, These guys actually tried]. It actually shows how good we are getting when it comes to Movie special effects.

We were getting rather tired of seeing that Mannequin head drenched in red oil every goddamn time!

Does any other person notice how hard it was for one of the P square Twins to try to keep his igbo Intonation out of the movie, since he is supposed to be  a Yoruba’s aristocrat son?

Yeah it was funny to watch actually….i was half expecting him to burst into a song to profess his love, but the producers probably could’nt afford a mini concert……..

Soooo………………………

Nse Ekpe Etim did well too in her role as as the Head Lady of all prostitutes ……… She always slays in every film she’s in though…….she was amazing, her only issue was the fact that she tried hard to keep Quality English out of her mouth 😂..... but it's all good.

We love her irregardless...

Richard Mofe Damijo act was Mind-blowing. As someone who's seen him act  The good Father/Grandpa in all the movies he's acted...

Watching him act Devilish is a totally New Act for me.....and He Killed it

Ali nuhu and Uche Jombo played a rather silent role in this movie though.....

The Major quirks

 

First off the fact That Colorado (Zubby Micheal) escaped shows that there'll be a season 2 of the show...

Secondly I must confess that Shola Shobowale part was absolutely Unnecessary.... Totally.... I can't place my finger around her effect on the gang....

She prayed for them before they went out...did her incantation Gibberish.....and yet they were still captured!

How?

Scar (chidi Mokeme) still came back and acted all normal, like everything was good...... like..... I don't get......?

Next off 

. Who kills and decapitates people right in the middle of the road?

Lai shey ritual .....

On a Nigerian road...! A Nigerian road of all places 😂 where we drag for space......

Kai .... There was evidence of poor storytelling in there....

Poor storytelling!.

. Why was there a fight scene between two characters neither of whom we knew nor cared about? 😂

Okay this was funny as hell ......,   I remember this part so well, there was this young man with Dreads.... fighting another young Man.....

This part dragged on for a while like these characters were very prime characters......SMH😂

They don't know.... 🤦

. Why would Chief Fernandez show up to an uncompleted building at all? 

Why?

Even if the uncompleted building was dope actually......and he was confident in his charms......why still?

Why?*

. Why would Ini edo who can 'fight' suddenly become helpless in the face of actual danger (rape & torture)? 

Likeeeeee....why?

I never got this part at all..... unless it was all part of the underground operation thing to get her *** torn?

Cause It didn't make sense...

  . Who recorded or sent the VN to Shalewa? If it really had been recording the whole time, wouldn't Jackie's killers have seen it on the display and taken the phone away?

How did it even send admist all the Scuffle?

How?

I mean to those hungry boys backing scar.....it could have meant food money if it was sold...

It's just so silly....

Really it is😂

My Conclusion

It's an Improvement from our usual Nollywood nonsense.....so it's a YES for me....

I would recommend it for you to watch, but keep your 8 - 17 year olds away from watching this movie.... 

 Well that's if they don't watch it themselves or they haven't watched it already... ( Shrugs)
